Not sure if anyone else can relate, but for some reason my ADHD is sooo much worse with cooking specifically. I really struggle with remembering what's in my pantry/fridge, accurately meal planning, getting overwhelmed while grocery shopping, staying within budget, remembering cooking techniques, and trying to track macros and nutrients. Both my parents have undiagnosed ADHD and I grew up in a household that did not know how to cook whatsoever and did not teach me an ounce about cooking.
I've been living on my own for several years now but my executive dsyfunction around cooking is still a major struggle. I keep a grocery list and rotate between a handful of go-to easy meals that I have written down, but even still I will just forget that I can cook X recipe with Y ingredients, I will either over or under buy while at the grocery store resulting in food going bad or not eating enough, and I will forget recipes that I have made a 100 times. The struggle has a spiraling effect too. Not eating well causes my ADHD symptoms to get much worse, resulting in me struggling more to prepare meals for myself, resulting in a worse diet and repeat.
I really want to grow out of this (both for my health and to feel more confident in the kitchen) but nothing seems to stick. I will watch Youtube videos about cooking fundamentals and then literally forget 5 minutes later. I try to "pay attention" while cooking to notice what is going on but honestly cooking seems like the closest thing to wizardry. I don't find it intuitive. I am not sure why my brain is like this. I don't struggle to this degree with any other complicated tasks and am usually amazing at learning and seeing patterns.
