How can I gently tell my friend that it hurts when he says I don't listen, especially since I give him my full attention? I struggle with working memory, complex attention, and cognitive flexibility due to formally diagnosed ADHD-C, which he dismissed as an excuse. I've been working with my psychiatrist for two years, but we havenโt found the right medication yet.
Examples of situations where he said this:
Gifted him a cool mount in a game that I remember him talking about. After thanking me, he said that I actually got it wrong. I bought the "Galaxy Horse" instead of the "Galaxy Hat Horse." I only missed one word, but I have no memory of that mistake. I vividly remember our conversation, so I was surprised when he said I got it wrong, especially since I had been excited to gift it, thinking it was exactly what he wanted.
I hosted a party & asked guests what toppings they wanted for the pizza. Someone kept having to explain what weird way they wanted me to order the pizza & it ended up coming wrong because I couldn't understand why he wanted me to pay full price for 4 toppings but only put two on each side to mix & match flavours. Apparently, everyone else in the room understood exactly what he was saying except for me, so my friend commented again that I don't listen. Compared to the first situation, this situation was more stressful because two large pizzas ended up costing $100 the way he wanted it.
My friend shared a piece of game advice with me a month ago. Then I learned something new on my own about the game & excitedly shared the advice with him. He got mad at me and said he already told me the thing a month ago. I have 0 memory of that conversation. Once again he said I didn't listen.
How can I ask for more grace from my friend? I genuinely have no recollection of him saying some of this stuff.
