any suggestions on how to stay on track while working at home?
Post Body

hi all!

i really struggle to get (uni) work done at home. it’s a Thing. alternatively, i find it much easier to work in other locations that are more focused around studying — e.g., at university or at a library.

the only problem with that is i’m chronically late to everything. my university campus closes around 5pm on weekends, and I can only really get to university at 12pm at the earliest (because procrastination) so 12-5pm plus breaks unless i’m hyperfixating doesn’t leave me a lot of time if i’m hoping to get a lot of work done. some of my lectures are half an hour long, and that’s already 10% of the time gone, and i’m doing two subjects with multiple lectures each.

plus, writing essays takes me hours. i can NEVER figure out how to word the things i want to word and writing 500 words can take me over 5 hours. so, we have a problem.

this means that on the weekend, when the campus is closed (my local libraries close early/aren’t open on weekends so that’s not an option), the only place i can actually work is home, because my laptop is bad (battery drains fast and W, C and D keys are broken so I need to use a wired keyboard to actually type). i could try a cafe but i can’t drive so i take PT, i’m a bit low on cash atm (haven’t gotten a shift in 2 months) and i’d feel so bad sitting for hours in a cafe if i don’t buy anything, or only buy a single cheap coffee.

i need to be able to get work done at home, but it’s so incredibly hard to self-motivate at home. my room is a mess and the urge to bed rot is just too strong for me to resist most of the time. so other locations are probably a better idea, but i live in a house with 7 people and it can get busy.

if i can clean up my room it might be an option but my main focus right now is trying to figure out the best ways to stay on task despite working at home. i’d love any tips or advice if you guys have any!! :)
