The efficacy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Post Body

I'm an ADHD guy in my 50's. I'm tried every drug and I haven't found anything that actually really works for me. I have often been told that maybe CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) might work for me but everytime I've investigated it and tried to implement it, it never seems to work for me. I have always thought that it wouldn't likely work for me because the problem with CBT , and all other therapy is that it's DOWNSTREAM of the problem.

CBT addresses the symptoms or consequences of ADHD rather than the root cause of the challenges. Itโ€™s like trying to clear debris from a river downstream, where the debris keeps coming because the source of the problem, the junk that's being dumped in - isnโ€™t being addressed.

In this context, my experience with ADHD is dealing with the primary issues, such as difficulties with focus, organization, and executive function, which is deeply ingrained and less responsive to CBT techniques. These techniques often focus on changing thought patterns or behaviors, which not address the neurological aspects of ADHD that drive those patterns and behaviors in the first place.
