I finally have my own therapist! (who also has ADHD)
Post Body

Hi guys!

I had an amazing day today. I just went to my first therapy session. So I told my therapist about everything that I struggle with while I'm experiencing ADHD symptoms. My meds, behavior, relationships with my family, friends, how I struggle from work and school (before), dreams, overwhelming thoughts everyday, and most importantly my goals in this therapy. I also told him that I feel weird whenever I SET timers when finishing a certain task, and he told me that it's valid. I am different. That I think differently. That I do not have to force myself to think similarly to those who do not have ADHD.

What I've learned so far today is that:

You have to acknowledge and accept that your brain is different from people without ADHD. You function differently from them and you have a disability but that doesn't stop you from doing the things that you want in the future and today. I know it will take some time for me to accept it, because in our country (Philippines) the government is not very inclusive and health here is inaccessible (especially for mental health). We still experience stigma or prejudices especially when you have disabilities, but I'll get there.

He told me that I need to reflect on this -- on how to accept my disability, that it's also part of me. So I kind of need some help and I wanna hear your lived experiences! So.. Here are my questions:

During your first diagnosis, how did you deal with it?

How did you accept it?

What are the things that you do to focus on things that you want to finish?

What are the unique ways that you usually do in your everyday life to cope from work and school?
