In the same day someone praised me on the company's internal website for doing good work, my manager says he is putting me on a performance plan for not always delivering completely "perfect" spelling and grammar in my work.
This is the only real blemish on my record. I completely understand that he has brought it up before, and I have worked on it, but he has decided that PIP in is order. Interestingly, and as he noted, I mentioned recently how I was unhappy in my current role and want to pursue a role elsewhere within the company.
I am well-liked and respected in my team and department, as is my work. My LinkedIn has several recent reviews from coworkers praising me. People I've talked to who have been in manager roles are shocked that someone who otherwise is a good employee would be put on a PIP for such relatively small issues.
My manager is a self-described "***hole." That's his word for describing himself. He is known for being salty and abrasive and is not respected in the department. He says offensive things but gets away with it.
You are on your own in the world. That is my lesson. Anyone in power will treat you terribly for any reason. My next step is to now disclose to my employer that I have ADHD and hope that, plus a carefully worded appeal, will be enough to help me keep my job long enough to find a new one.
Good luck to everyone in your own battles.
