Is having a child with ADHD ALWAYS a fight?

Post Body

Every morning and every night are a battle, and I'm just tired. I want to give up. He (age 10) fights back against EVERYTHING I ask. Yes, he is medicated (Vyvanse). Working on getting Jornay to help with mornings, but insurance hasn't approved it yet. He's taking Risperidone in the evenings to help with the anger/sleep issues, but I don't think it's helping. Not sure what to do anymore. Is this normal, or could there be something else going on here?

I don't think I ask for a lot (especially from him), but even little brother (8) is exhausted and crying due to always having to pick up the slack and the constant battles.

I don't have chores for my kids (I have four). I just ask for them to clean up after themselves, and occasionally help out with cleaning the bathroom, so like I said, it's not like he has this huge list of demands by me.

It's a fight to get him to take his meds, to get in the shower, to brush his teeth, get dressed, put his dirty dishes in the dishwasher, put his trash in the trash can, put his clothes in the hamper, do his homework, etc., etc., etc. It's all basic stuff.

I'm so frustrated all the time (which comes out as anger), and my son is saying he hates himself, etc., which guts me. What can I do?
