ADHD & Pregnancy
Post Body

I'm really just venting because for the next 5 weeks (at minimum) I won't be able to take any meds to manage my ADHD. I'm a teacher and I go back to work next Friday and I don't know how I'm going to do it...

I started taking Strattera (generic) in January to manage my ADHD. By March we had decided to increase to twice a day.

I found out that I'm pregnant (yay!) and my OB said I needed to stop taking my meds or switch to Adderall. But I would need to talk to my family doctor about the medication switch.

I've been on summer break as a teacher and really struggling to remember to take my meds because I don't have a set schedule like I do at work. So I definitely wanted to see about switching to Adderall.

I called my family doctor, who prescribed the Strattera. She said I need to see another doctor. I called that doctor's office to get an appointment but I couldn't get one because I didn't have a referral, but they'd like to see me at 6 weeks (next week) for an appointment if possible. No worries, I'm sure my family doctor will send a referral. Problem, they only accept referrals from OBs...

So I call my OB's office and explain this entire situation. They said they'll put in the request for the referral and get back to me.

They got back to me this morning, my OB is more than willing to send over the referral but not until after she sees me at my 9 week appointment... Which makes sense because she doesn't know me yet and I understand that completely. However, it's incredibly frustrating because it means for a minimum of 5 more weeks I won't have any way to treat my ADHD.
