I saw a psychiatrist they confirmed I have mild ASD and have ADHD which wasn’t a surprise because I saw the psychiatrist for ADHD assessment and a psychologist told me I might have ASD. Unfortunately what I didn’t expect was the psychiatrist also believes I might be on the bipolar spectrum because I had a brief period (2 days) of hypomania on when I was first prescribed Lexapro. I also have MDD and GAD. I feel like all my symptoms are related to ADHD but somehow have all these different disorders. The psychiatrist also mentioned because I have a sibling with schizophrenia and one of my parents had a paranoid/ delusional phase this puts me at greater risk for developing schizophrenia or psychosis from stimulants. I’ve discussed with the psychiatrist that I feel like the benefits outweigh the risk and I want to trial it and not take it regularly only on a needs basis. I’m trying to complete my masters and am really struggling also struggling with pathological demand avoidance. I have another apt next week after the psychiatrist considers a treatment plan. Does anyone here have schizophrenia or Bipolar spectrum and take stimulants? How do you manage it and how did you get your Dr to prescribe it?
