42f with adhd, with 12m AuDHD kid. He desperately āneedsā (thatās how he describes it, like his brain wonāt let him do anything else) to info dump about his special interests (video games and comic books). Iām a geek too, so I get it and can keep up for a while, but after a while the expectation from him that he can just tell me random facts without having an actual interactive conversation, combined with my complete lack of interest in the minutiae of those particular subjects, makes me feel like Iām going to crawl out of my skin. I donāt know how to balance our competing needs while being a caring parent. Anyone else in the same boat or have ideas? Iāve tried explaining I can only listen for a certain amount of time, but he canāt seem to stop himself or talk about other things and I feel so mean saying no, I wonāt have this conversation anymore.
