Question for other parents
Post Body

42f with adhd, with 12m AuDHD kid. He desperately ā€œneedsā€ (thatā€™s how he describes it, like his brain wonā€™t let him do anything else) to info dump about his special interests (video games and comic books). Iā€™m a geek too, so I get it and can keep up for a while, but after a while the expectation from him that he can just tell me random facts without having an actual interactive conversation, combined with my complete lack of interest in the minutiae of those particular subjects, makes me feel like Iā€™m going to crawl out of my skin. I donā€™t know how to balance our competing needs while being a caring parent. Anyone else in the same boat or have ideas? Iā€™ve tried explaining I can only listen for a certain amount of time, but he canā€™t seem to stop himself or talk about other things and I feel so mean saying no, I wonā€™t have this conversation anymore.
