Regular Adderall vs XR?

Post Body

I’ve been on regular Adderall for a couple weeks now and it’s been life changing. My ability to focus and get things done has been great. But… the crash at the end of the day can be nuts sometimes, and mornings are super hard.

I generally wake up at 5:30 and leave the house by 6:15 for work. I grab something to eat on the way and take my first Adderall by 6:30 while eating. The morning issue is that first hour is MISERABLE. I’m almost always later than I want to be and forget half of my entire life during that time. After my meds, I’m good for a while.

My job is very intense, and I find my focus starts slipping around lunch, so I usually eat around noon and take my second dose. At the end of a really hard day, by the time I come home and everything’s pretty much out of my system, all the brain fog sets in and the anxiety I should have felt can come crashing in at the same time. It’s made for lots of overwhelm and anxiety some evenings.

This is all to say, I wonder if XR is a better option? I’ve heard that some people take it like an hour before they get up and it makes mornings easier, and maybe it can taper off easier at the end of the day. That said, I’m SO focused and productive while my meds are in full swing and I don’t want to lose that, but this rollercoaster gets hard.

What’s everyone’s experience between the two? My doc is open to it but I’m afraid to get a 30 day supply and have it suck for a whole month. I’m on 10mg 2x/day right now.
