I went to my GP to address my potential ADHD for the first time, and he pushed anti-depressants or other meds right away. I was kinda shocked because I may be a bit anxious but I really don't think I'm depressed. Honestly, I just wanted to get referrals to see a psychiatrist face-to-face and talk, and only take meds if necessary after talking to a specialist...
I ended up just choosing Adderall because it's the only thing he listed that I've heard of. I went to the pharmacy to pick it up, and the pharmacist said there's usually no reason for me to need this big of a dose if I'm a first timer, so they're gonna check with my doc tomorrow before giving me the meds.
I'm honestly confused and kinda scared coz I don't want to take meds unless I get an official diagnosis. Am I being paranoid? Is it really this normal/casual to prescribe mental health medicines?
I did get referral to a mental health institute, but I read some bad reviews on Google. I'm honestly not sure what to do
(I was at the same clinic last year for an usual annual physical checkup, and a different GP I had at the time, after reading a mental health questionariee I filled out, also said "you're displaying signs of anxiety...do you want me to prescribe antidepressants?" after talking to me for just a few minutes. I refused at the time.)
