From what Iâve read about ADHD Redditors itâs really hard to sit still for any period of time. With that in mind Iâve been thinking of kinds of meditations that might be more helpful for what I think of as the âWild Onesâ. Starting to meditate http://redd.it/1azc3q
This may also be helpful to folks with questions about meditating on a particular subject or theme. Which to many of you, is an oxymoron because we are supposed to be âwatchingâ our thoughts, not participating in them.
Find a comfortable spot. Sit or lay down, makes no difference. Deep breath in through the nose, exhale. Repeat as necessary.
Start at your toes, first one foot then the other. Think about how your toes feel. If you are antsy, squeeze your toes and release. Think about how each individual toes feels. Go through each one and acknowledge it.
*Stay with your toes, think about the nails, the nail bed. *Warm, cold, itchy, sweaty, how your socks feel on the tips of your toes. *Can you feel the individual hairs on your toes? *Can you feel your heart beating in your toes? Do you have a toe pulse?
The object here is to know your toes so well, that your whole world is just your toes (if you are really good and you can do this on just one toe). Stay with your toes until you are bored silly. Then do it some more.
Keep thinking about your toes until you feel really good about them, and now they are your friends. You love your toes.
When your focus moves away from your toes then bring it back to them. See how they feel since your attention drifted away. Take as much time as you can with your toes. See if you can do ten minutes.
That's it. Focused meditation.
If you can do a session for each part of your body, you will never run out of material to meditate on. For those of us who need a theme or a goal, this is an awesome revelation. Just pick the next body part but go from the toes up and donât skip an area.
Why? *Your physical body holds your emotional state. *Being familiar with your body on a focused level makes you immediately emotionally intelligent. *Feeling like shit? Find out where in your body you are feeling it the most. *Stomach, head, chest? Meditate on it and you will find out more about yourself than you ever imagined. *If you focus on the pain instead of running from it, you will feel better when you are done. As always, let me know what you think and if this is helpful.
