I've never been diagnosed with ADHD but recently have been planning on seeing a Psychiatrist for evaluation. I went to my primary today seeking a referral and he elected to refer me to a Neurologist and a Psychologist instead. I'm 39 years old and I've only ever been to a Psychiatrist (many years ago for depression) so honestly I'm not too familiar with a lot of this stuff.
Is there any reason why he would have elected to have me to go this route instead of referring me directly to a Psychiatrist? He said a Neurologist is better suited for assessing ADHD but that doesn't sound right to me. Having to go through all these different doctors is making me super anxious. Anyone who has some experience with this and can provide me some insight on what to expect through this process is greatly appreciated!
I've never heard of a neurologist diagnosing adhd.... that seems misaligned.
You could always do your own research... See who around you would diagnose it then ask for a referral to them.
