Afraid of triggering schizophrenia by taking ADHD meds

I was just diagnosed with ADHD (I'm 22) and I want to pursue medication. My mother had schizophrenia, she was diagnosed at 21, and I have been reading that stimulants can cause psychosis or even (rarely) trigger schizophrenia.

I have had no signs or symptoms that might indicate I am schizophrenic, but I am obviously at a greater risk because of my genes and I'm terrified of that possibility. I'm afraid of even trying out ADHD meds because of this...

How at risk am I of developing schizophrenia due to my genetic history if I start taking stimulants? Is it worth it to even try?
