Hi guys, sorry it's location limited but, have any of you guys had experience with getting a diagnosis as an adult? I'm 45, I've battled depression since my late teens, but when i was in my early 30s, I began to question weather antidepressants were the right solution and something else was affecting me. (UK GPS are quick to hand out antidepressants and kick you out the door) Then I was talking to a patient of mine, (I'm an optician) we got on the subject of depression as she was taking Sertraline like myself, so we exchanged battle stories. I was trying to put my life in a 5 min conversation, the mum said "you're describing the symptoms of both my lads, they have ADHD". Intrigued, I looked up symptoms in a medical directory and various ADHD websites, I was amazed to se my childhood right there, and carrying on through my life. I was in school in the 80s/90s so I was put in the disruptive child bracket. Now. For the past 7 years, I've been trying to get a referral for an ADHD assessment, but is as if I've asked the Dr to have a quickie with his wife, its such a taboo. I'm considering going private, but I was curious if anyone else has had similar experiences. I strongly feel, my depression crashes are linked to the frustration I get with ADHD symptoms. Plus, the mum of the two boys gave my 3 Amphetamine tablets to try... I've never felt clarity of mind like that before! I had a drive to do house work I'd been putting off for weeks, and the thousands of conversations I have in my mind at any given time had reduces to a very strange 2 or 3. It was all quiet up there...
