If you have not been great about dental care, how do you prepare for the dentist?

I only thought to ask this here after I saw so many people relating in the other thread about tooth brushing being boring etc….I haven’t been to the dentist in years because scheduling an appointment is a daunting task. I don’t regularly remember to floss and usually only remember to brush my teeth once a day in the morning, evening it’s maybe 30% of the time, and I get bored so I am not sure how thorough that brushing is. So I’m sure it’s not great.

Well, I chipped my tooth earlier today when my overexcited dog headbutted me in the face (not maliciously of course, just happy to see me) and her teeth hit mine, and even though it seems small, google scared me with some stories about minorly chipped teeth also leading to invisible cracks that got infected. And since I’m leaving the country for three weeks on Saturday, that was urgent enough for me to make some calls and get an appointment for Thursday morning.

So my question is - how do I get my mouth in good enough shape in the next 30-something hours that I don’t get scolded by the dentist for negligence??!
