Snapping out of Hyper focuse

Post Body

Hi,

I am 28M, recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD. I am talking with a therapist and soon will be visiting a Psychiatrist to see how medications could help me.

Since I am new I am still learning, turns out all the things I thought I didn’t like to do or was just to lazy to do was because of ADHD. I always struggled in college and school but someone managed to get C’s so I just flew under the radar.

The reason I am writing this is, I am also self analyzing. And I need some help with understanding this as I don’t meet my therapist for another week.

I have the zones hyper focus where I tend to focus on tv shows, movies and insta reel for hours on end without worrying about anything. I even tend to eat food when I am absolutely hungry. The reason I use hyper focus because if you after 8 episodes you quiz me on who said what or how does one small detail about the 7th episode relates to the 2nd’s mid I can explain. I can predict whats gonna happens just by fooling a trail of logic.

This today I snapped out of it at 2:15am because I have to sleep around 3 to get up at 9 and get to work. There are obviously some hard limits in my head how do I alter them? Discipline only works for a couple of day and I find myself back in the cycle. I have also found that usually when I get stuck with a difficult task, I tend to watch more TV or be on my phone.

How do I break this cycle? Also if there is a term for it please advice.

I apologize for the long post, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
