So first up I should state that I am on 450mg of Wellbutrin cause I’m a sad boi. And that does have some affect on ADHD.
I started grad school in 2021 and got my adult ADHD diagnosis and was prescribed Ritalin. I shit you not I would not be have gotten through graduate school without it. It has been life changing. I can long term plan. I can halt impulsive behavior. I can stop intrusive thoughts. There’s one small problem though….
My heart. No matter what I cannot get my heart rate below 100 when I’m on this. Technically this is known as tachycardia. Combine this over a couple of years and now I’m chronically short of breath. I’ve been checked up and down for more serious problems but nothing. Hearts good, livers good, oxygen flow good, oxygen saturation good, no arrhythmias, but heart rate is always very high. I have asthma and we think the constant racing heart is making it worse. But the tipping point is Ritalin has finally given me the focus needed to go back to the gym and get back in shape….but now cause of the racing heart I can’t keep up. Cruel irony that the thing helping me exercise may also be stopping me from exercise.
I’m gonna see my asthma specialist but we have eliminated a lot of other things it could be, and there is a very real possibility I’m told I need to find a way to lower my resting heart rate cause it’s contributing to the shortness of breath.
If it comes to that, I wanna know other people’s experiences. I’m already on of the main non-stimulant medications and it helps a little with ADHD. But not enough. If you have your adhd well controlled without medicine how were you able to do it?
