My strategy for making morning productivity easier “Slideshow Routines”
Post Body

Hello!! I hope everyone is having a lovely day, I just wanted to share a comment I put on a post about productivity the other day because I thought it would be useful for more people to see. :)

The Idea

Basic overview: making yourself a slideshow of each day, by photographing different stages of your routine

Process: for each stage, take a photo. This can be for either your morning routine or the full day. For example, when you get out of bed, make it so you can take a photo of it made. Then put your clothes for the day and any hygiene items (toothpaste, deodorant etc) in a pile. Photograph it. After that, you could photograph a pile of what’s going in your bag, or a book you’re reading, or a timetable you make for yourself that day.

How it works: I can’t describe the science behind this, but it can make being productive a lot easier if you give it a goal, e.g to take a photo of it. I’ve found it helps a lot to think of each stage as working towards something, because it helps to give me the motivation I otherwise wouldn’t have. As well as this, it’s much easier to start a task if the first part is just getting everything out for a photo. Getting started is the hardest part for me, but this makes it so much easier. I use tik tok to hold myself accountable (don’t judge) and I find myself also being more productive since I want the video/slideshow to look good!! It’s so much easier to put on clothes if they’re already out in a pile, because it feels faster than putting them back away. Taking photos also only takes a second, and then I add them to a sideshow later on with some text, and it takes about 5 minutes to edit it to show my whole day. Also helps to remind me of the progress I’ve made, which can be hard to see in things like morning routines you do every day.

Overall, I’d say it has helped me to build a routine in the first place. Obviously not every day is perfect, but days are generally getting less and less overwhelming. I’ll leave the original comment below which goes into more detail, please let me know if any of you try this method or have tried it, and your experience or thoughts.

Original comment:

“I take photos of my morning routine each day - the book I’ll read, clothes pile, things to get ready with (deodorant, toothpaste, perfume etc)

I post some days online to motivate my future self, but even if I don’t, I’ve found that needing to photograph parts of my day makes me more productive because I actually get ready and do stuff (even if I start it because of the photos, I’ve found I’ll still finish the activity because it’s so much easier to do once I’ve started)

It also helps me to spot gaps or areas to speed up on, as I can look at the time each photo was taken at the end of the day

Might not work for everyone, but it honestly helps me to get out of bed because it give me a reason to, and also forces me to be productive because I take the items out (like clothes) for photos and then end up just putting them on quickly

Maybe it feels easier this way because it’s less stress if you’re only focusing on taking stuff out for a photo, rather than to use it. If you don’t want to take photos, you could also just make a pile of clothes and hygiene things, then not let yourself put anything away until it’s been used. Much faster to have everything in one place as well, I’ve found!! :)”
