How to lane against poke as hard engage champ?

I tend to play MF, Kai'sa, Samira, and Trist. In my last few games, I've gotten wrecked by heavy poke champs like Cait and Xayah. How do I lane against them without getting poked down to nothing before I'm even in range to AA minions?
