Why do we give up winnable games? Here's why you shouldn't give up, even those "unwinnable games"
Post Body

Alright, I really need to get this off my chest, because it's getting worse and worse each and every season of league.

Why do people, especially in low elo, have this weird early ff/ "i'm gonna give up if I perform poorly" mentality? Most games, even the ones that seem totally "unwinnable" in the first 15 minutes, are actually extremely winnable, ESPECIALLY in low elo where mistakes are abundant.

I understand having a bad lane phase or a terrible start to a game. Maybe you made a mistake in lane, maybe your bot lane's mentally playing aram and trolling, maybe the enemy jungler's been camping you harder than bears waiting to catch salmon swimming up river. I get it, It's insanely infuriating, and feels like a guaranteed loss. But giving up mentally and guaranteeing yourself the loss is even more infuriating for everybody. I'll explain why it hurts everybody, including you.

Here's reality: the enemy team is GOING to make mistakes, especially in lower elos. They get cocky, overextend, underestimate your team's ability to punish mistakes, miss a smite on baron, take a bad teamfight, a carry hands over a shutdown, somebody takes a tower bounty, etc. You get the idea. Stop giving up! take advantage of those mistakes!. That fed Darius who's been shitting on you all game? He gets caught out, and suddenly he's a shutdown that goes to your carry and now you have a chance.

Now, I KNOW the fucking counter-argument: "playing out a losing game is a waste of time!". Here's why that's not logical thinking and pure emotional thinking:

Let's do some quick math. Say you only manage to salvage 10% of those "unwinnable" games over 100 games. That's 10 wins you wouldn't have had if you surrendered early. Think about it: you were already down LP, right? So, by winning a seemingly "unwinnable" game, you not only avoid losing 20-25 LP, but you actually gain 20-25 LP. That's a net difference of 40-50 LP swing in your favor per comeback! Suddenly, those "waste of time" games become LP gains. That's 2 game's worth of LP and Time! You're not saving time by FF'ing early. At the end of a season, that difference could amount to 250-500 LP depending on how many games you play per season! That's literally half to a whole ass rank.

Here's my big point: League is a all about snowballing. But you can learn from mistakes. you can adapt and climb. And you can focus on punishing mistakes that the enemy teams make. You might actually be be surprised at how many "unwinnable" games you can actually pull back from from the jaws of fucking depression. And you know what? Those are some of the most fucking fun and satisfying ass games of league to win man, so why not just play the game out and try? Can we please give up this weird "give up if I'm doing bad" mentality? It hurts everybody, including yourself.

I don't know. Maybe i'm just being an old gamer (i'm 29 now). But I feel like, back in the days of COD lobbies and other games where the flame was actually abusive, people would troll each other so badly, but I would still always see people playing their hardest. People at the bottom of the leaderboards wouldn't just give up. people would talk shit, but they'd still try their asses off. That's why I could give less shits if people were toxic and abusive back then, because at least they tried to win. Is it just me being old? or are things just actually different now?

Feel free to share your thoughts. Have a good day peeps.

I never surrender, I don't really see the point of it. It's extremely rare that the game is actually unwinnable.
