I'm not entirely sure if this is something that is ok to post here on this subreddit, But I really need a bit of help. I've done a handful of auditions, and have had little or no response, which I suspect is pretty normal early on. I see even people who have been doing this a while get around 20% hit rate for auditions from my understanding?
My question is thus as the post title suggests. I'm new to audiobooks, with a background in theater and being a 2d animator. I want to get into narration so that I can play my way through some advanced degrees without taking on too much more student loans, and hopefully have a career long after I'm done with school.
My main issue is that I'm not really getting feedback from authors about if what I'm doing is good or bad so far. The only feedback I've gotten is that I don't have the right 'tone' that one author was looking for. Are there any recourses for people starting out to maybe get some feedback, or talk to someone on things to improve on? I don't have a lot of spare cash right now to take a class online, or pay for one of the online mentor/review sessions with some of the voice actors I've seen on YouTube.
I'm kind of thinking maybe I should try to post to YouTube and try to get feedback there, But I'm not really sure anyone with an experienced ear would give me a fair assessment on there. Just wondering if there was anything like that out there.
Thanks for any info in advance! I really love how generous people here can be with information, and hope that there is something out there for what I'm looking for.
