I tore my ACL and more with badminton jump shot about a month back. After MRI surgeon immediately said ACL is completely ruptured and for the Meniscus root tear he has to put a titanium fixture and draw a string from the other bone. To be frank I didn't really understand what all he was saying but he said before surgery it will be 6 weeks no weight bearing. And that surgery is successful.
And that's exactly the protocol he gave after surgery. To be precise
- Always in braces with no flex other than exercises
- 6 weeks with no weight bearing on left leg
- 60 degrees extension first 3 weeks
- 90 degrees extension 3-6 weeks.
My PT was pretty surprised and I felt he thinks it is overboard. What do you guys think? Anyone with a similar diagnosis?
By the end, PT said he wouldn't go against protocol and gave exercise that fits the protocol but just more repetitions.
He seemed good and was able to demonstrate that I can lift up my leg high and also i can anchor with left leg with the heel on the ground (without doing any weight bear). Is my surgeon more conservative? Anything I can ask during the post op appointment that can help?
