I’m surprised more people aren’t bothered by it. Just the thought of this is heartbreaking. ACC basketball is one of the most hallowed things in all of sports and has been for a long time. There are ancient rivalries throughout the conference that would be going away or at least played less (no chance of meeting in a conference tournament at least) and yet it seems like a lot of people don’t care. It doesn’t bother you that instead of being able to argue with people in your own state or bordering states that your new force fed rival might be Arkansas or Minnesota? I’m a big Carolina fan and while I hate NC State and Duke, hating them is the fun of it all! I don’t give a fuck about Arkansas or Minnesota. I feel like people are so ho hum about this. This will ruin a big part of something I’ve loved literally my entire life. I’m sickened by all of this.
The ACC is most likely going away because the entire conference catered to only a couple of Schools within the conference. This is the way I have felt the conference hierarchy lines up in terms of influence in conference decision making.
UNC Duke ———— NCState Wake Virginia ————- Clemson Ga Tech Florida State ———— All the others
Every other school outside of NC was an afterthought in terms of historic policy making and in that sense the conference deserves to fail.
It was also a bit of bad luck that Miami and Va Tech decided to start sucking at football the moment they got in the conference and then Florida State took about a decade long football nap as well. But If Swafford did not consistently have two different shades blue jizz glueing his eyes shut he would have seen the landscape was changing and the schools that bring in the majority of revenue dollars were far from happy or felt that their best interest were being looked after.
The ACC will remain but it will just be UNC, Duke, Virginia, Wake and maybe NC State. Which is what they always wanted anyway.
