Gonna restate something I just said to another redditor: "The two just aren't comparable, it may seem like a preference of underwear to you and I, but to someone who (rightly) views this as primarily a fetish views it no differently than other fetishes like bondage. Would you want your mom to know you like using a ball gag if that was your thing?

It's not like being gay at all since this should have no visible effect on your lifestyle or on whether or not you can/want to have kids. Being gay absolutely has massive and visible effects on those things. You can't really hide that forever. Whereas your preference for fetish wear really has no place in the public and your family certainly doesn't want to know."

Just remember that at best this would be viewed by people you aren't intimate with as a sexual deviancy and as such has no place in public view and is certainly not something about you your family wants or needs to know about.
