Plenty of my friends and family know about my incontinence and use of nappiesā¦.however, it still surprises me how new people will notice and question my nappies even when I am very discreet about my wearing.
My wife recently made friends with some new people at a netball club she joined. One of them came to the house a few evenings agoā¦and wellā¦it was eventful!
I popped upstairs to do something whilst they chatted in the kitchenā¦.I faintly overheard the conversation happening downstairs.
āSorry, but I have to askā¦.does he wear incontinence padsā
My wife being super open was like āYehhhh, heās been wearing nappies for 15 yearsā¦.heās got a couple of disabilities but copes wellā.
Anyway, I reemerge and the conversation turns to me: āJust been telling Sarah about youā¦.she works in a care home and spotted your nappyā.
It was really interesting/liberating to have an open conversation with somebody who deals with nappies in a professional setting - she apparently spotted the shape under my sweats instantly as she has a trained eye for it.
In her work she deals with a variety of ages but one thing she did say was āA lot of people come into our facility and use pads sparingly at first and then they become so used to them, they become a safety net, they get scared to go without them and then end up using them full timeā.
A fascinating insightā¦.however, maybe Iām not as discreet as I thought!
