It’s occurred to me that I should share some diaper tape science/technique as a common complaint for any given diaper is whether or not the tapes stick.
Keep in mind 2 things:
1 - this doesn’t apply to Velcro/hook-n-loop tapes 2 - some diapers do have better tapes than others, but this technique will help all tapes stick better.
Instead of thinking of your tapes as tape, think of it as glue. That’s basically what tape is - glue attached to a plastic backing. Glue needs time to dry/cure, and it can also dry/cure better given certain conditions. In this case, that condition will be heat.
So here’s the technique:
When you place a tab down, place it firmly, and then immediately rub your thumb over top of the tape, back and forth, to create friction. Sometimes I’ll slide my pointer finger inside the diaper to provide a backing for my thumb to rub against. You will feel the tape warm up…it doesn’t take but maybe 5 seconds. Then stop rubbing and allow the tape a few seconds to cool off and bond. Do this BEFORE moving on to the next tape. As you know, when you tape one side of the diaper, and move to the other side, you are putting pressure on the tape you just did. So allow the tape to cool back down and bond before moving to the next tape.
The combination of heat from friction and pressure is what does the trick. And there you have it - better sticking tapes for all plastic diapers!
Hope this helps!
