I told a coworker “I’m just a baby,” by accident and now things are awkward.
Post Body

For context, I work in the trades. At night.

I was elbow deep in a machine, and paying half attention to what one of the supervisors was saying to me. I really wanted to be left alone so I could work on the task at hand, but this guy was telling me his entire life story, and complaining about his hours. Basically I was trying to work, and he stood behind me, complaining about this and that. He’s not my boss, I’m technically a contractor. So I was about to tell him to leave me alone.

He made a comment about how management could do a better job at scheduling people.

I meant to say “Yeah, I just work here man…” as dismissively as possible.

What I ended up saying: “Yeaaah… I’m just a baby, man.”

I guess I’m used to saying both phrases enough, and I was distracted, and my wires were crossed.

He followed up with, “what did you just say?” And started to laugh.

I tried to play dumb. He laughed harder, and started repeating “you know what you just said.”

I told him to go away because I was busy and he was being dumb. He left. Now every time I see him, he busts out laughing.

I hope he thinks it’s just something silly I said. I misspoke obviously, but I’m not sure what he thinks. He’s a dumb hillbilly. One of the groups here in the factory keeps a running tally of how many times this supervisor brings up buttholes.
