Just talking to some of my old coworkers and they’re just stressed the heck out over covid and some clients who’s parents just don’t care. How many of you go into a clients home or clients come to your facility and the parents pay no attention to what you are doing or just straight up leave. I understand parents of clients are always undergoing a huge amount of stress with kids but I can’t wrap my mind around those parents who don’t see (or complain about) client improvement but don’t put any work in themselves. In my career as a therapist iv delt with clients who parents just suck and don’t bother with parent training. It really sucks the life out of RBTs since you don’t regularly leave with the sense of accomplishment or knowing you made a difference. It got to the point for me sometimes when I run important programs and then check out. BCBAs feel the same because they cant change programming just the way that they are delivered and it’s not fair to the client. What do you guys do in this situation? Have you confronted the parents? How does your BCBA deal with this? Iv had coworkers be reassigned because they can’t take it.
