I’m a fairly new BT, about 1 month into my clinical hours. I have currently have TK age clients, the 1st one I’ve been with since I started. The kiddo has always been very physically affectionate and very physical in play. Hugging me, lifting arms up to be carried even attempting to crawl into my lap which I try to redirect to just sitting cup close to me. This kiddo loves tickles and to be picked up and gentle spun. It helped up pair pretty quickly and has been a great reinforcer and even helped with sensory needs. I have a second kiddo I just began with, very fresh into the pairing process and similarly enjoys the same things. Reaches to be lifted, wants my help in dancing videos, wants to lean against me. It’s absolutely helping in the pairing process, I’m wondering now if it’s an issue ? My newest client is receiving services while at daycare, on my second day of pairing they expressed they didn’t think it was a good idea because “I’m babying” the child. That this child needs to independent and I’m enabling them, they expressed that they make it a point to deny all the children access to being held so they grow up and understand their not babies. I explain to them it may appear that way for a period of time while I pair with them and that I am more than happy to take the client to a separate area that was still in their view so it wouldn’t potential effect the other children. They agreed but seemed hesitant. Im unsure now, the only way this kiddo really acknowledges me is if I participate in physical play with them. I’ve never questioned it until now. I’ve never had anything said to me by my supervisors when they come to witness sessions however I also want to maintain a neutral relationship with the center for the client benefit. Who do you guys think? It it not okay to be carrying them or lift them on my hip to do soft spins ?
