Do you give your name when asked?
Post Body

Hi Y'all,

I'm going on week two as a 911 trainee and am working towards my certification. In my modules it goes over many transcripts, scenarios, recorded calls, etc. I was wondering if any of y'all have ever given your name (first, nickname, etc.) to a caller? I also plan on asking my supervisor tomorrow when I go in.

I thought of this because in a recorded call with a person contemplating suicide, there was a lot of discussion on establishing empathy and a bond. However, there hasn't been one of a caller asking for a dispatcher's name and I personally thought that's a nice way to humanize a dispatcher as well. I wasn't sure if that was common to be asked or if maybe it wasn't allowed.
