Guns in your comm center
Post Body

We had a situation arise the other night and I thought I would see how your comm centers handle something like this.

Without going into all of the details, we had a distraught man make his way into the locked building where the comm center is located. Everything turned out okay and he ended up in jail. However, the entire situation brought up the conversation of what would happen if someone like that was attempting to access the comm center and the conversation of guns in the comm center.

Our center is essentially a "gun free zone." I am aware, however, that there are centers that go as far as to have a weapon (e.g., a shotgun) in the center and require their dispatchers to qualify with it once per year.

What are your thoughts on this? How does your center operate and how would you like to see it operate?
