Gen Z here, born in ‘99 so I barely just made the 20th century. I’m fascinated by the 90’s since I was born so late, I never really got to experience it. After all of the media, marketing, literature, food culture, music culture, fashion culture, etc etc, I have listened to observed and watched, it seems like the 90’s had this innocent “vibe” or “feeling”? Everything seemed marketed towards a traditional family lifestyle?
Can anyone maybe shed some light on to why the 90’s had this light-hearted look and feeling?
Sears and cookie cutter sitcom families still existed and were plentiful. The flip side is grunge and skater youths, girls gone wild, heroin chic, homophobia and white men still being at the top of the food chain.

I wore pink tutus, stole my mom’s dresses to wear outside, carried a purse, wore makeup, and glitter in my hair and I was born in 1989. By 13 and 14 I was using girls bathrooms at school and other places because I was passable. I’m from Texas and experienced a lot of bullying because I was born out of the closet.
Hey, I saw you replied to me and said something nice, but it’s hidden probably cause you cussed.
They said “I’m sorry you got f*cked with for coming out.. The 90’s was a different animal.. it’s good that bullying and what not are taken way more seriously.. Keep your head up, in the end the only person tha..”
Thank you.
