Every time Kobe's friends get on him about his "white lady" I have to roll my eyes. Why is TLC so bent on portraying so many of these cultures as irreparably patriarchal? It's super cringey 😬
I have a friend (45m) and former coworker who immigrated to the US from Cameroon. His wife actually reminds me a lot of Emily. He's a very chill, go with the flow kind of guy and she is very authoritative. They make a great couple. They have 3 daughters and all 3 of them are wrestlers, the oldest of whom is a state champion. After he was established his brother also chose to stay in the US and started a family. (They were initially here on student visas)
At one point in time I was this man's supervisor in a high stress profession. In addition to him obviously empowering his daughters, I never once got that self important ick vibe I get off Kobes friends with their white lady comments. I never felt disrespected or like he didn't accept direction from me because I was a woman.
Traditions are one thing but TLC seems to like to paint the picture that we are the only country that allows free thinking. Ways of thinking may be traditional in some countries but that doesn't mean everyone follows those traditions. Just look at the friend Nicole met in Egypt.
Sorry. That was irritating me 🤣
