Smokey and the Bandit is a fun film to watch. The first time I saw it, I was around 5 years old (this was 1986) and I became an instant Burt Reynolds fan. I rewatch that first movie every few months just to laugh and have a good time (even though I know every line by heart). I don't watch the second movie very much because I didn't like how much of a jerk they made Bandit. Which is one of the reasons why I like Smokey and the Bandit 3 more than I do Bandit 2.
Bandit 3 is not as good as the first, obviously. However, I don't think it's a bad film. Jackie Gleeson is still great as Buford and he and Junior have some great scenes together (as they consistently did throughout the Bandit series). The musical score isn't bad and I especially love the opening song "Fearless Law of Texas". Some of the dialogue is bad, particularly those with Cleedus and Dusty. But we do get more of Big and Little Enos. The nudity that is sprinkled in (the motel scenes and the nudist picnic) are unnecessary though. Seems like something they added just because it was the 80s when the movie was made.
I understand why this movie isn't liked that much. But for me, it's definitely a guilty pleasure movie.
