The guy he's based on would certainly have held his own. Weapon Shadow X I believe, FMW wrestler. He's also held it... That's 1997 began and yet another champion on a "Do or die" title run.

No, Shadow WX (Weapon X) from BJPW. Guy used to physically light himself on fire then senton his opponents. I'm glad you asked, it's not the most well known of sports the Japanese Deathmatch Scene.
Iirc he stopped doing the spot after the Mike Samples incident. he couldn't get his shirt off once it was alight. Madness.
