For weeks now international fashion world has been abuzz, absolutely drooling over what many are proclaiming, "one of the most fantastic showings of fashion forwardness in recent uprisings. The 2013 season has resurrected some classic looks, but has also introduced a great variety subtle, yet effective uses of accessories to really pull off a great, 'I'm angry but I don't know why,' look."
I recently leaked article (to be published in the coming months) included a overview of some of the looks you may be seeing at a Government Ministry near you:
Not since 2007 have I been so excited for the winter fashion season. Fall saw some wonderful homages to some great classics, and the fashion world is waiting with bated breath for the new winter lines to come out. What's old is new again and one needs to look no further than the color palate. What can I say...red, Red, RED!!! Simple, bright and really pops. It's a look not for the feint of heart though, and really is for those ready to maximize their time sleeping on the streets of Bangkok for a few weeks. Stunning.
Of course, we can't just be all red, and this season is showing a great variety. Some, like red, harken back to 2007 (regarded as one of the, if not THE year protest swag really hit the streets). Some looks have really embraced a more understated, yet functional role for revelers, showing once again, that high fashion isn't just for the snobbish elite.
The fall season also came with it a great variety of innovative and new additions to the scheme. Whether you're a middle class accountant in Bangkok, a rice farmer from Udon or a rubber farmer from Nakhon Si Thammarat ...no one can be caught without these accessories:
Wow. The large glasses absolutely balance out the huge Hulk hand, finger raised as if to say, "look at me."
Cliché be damned! The wig, the mask...my breath taken away.
We came to make some noise. And with this pocket sized plastic clapper, one can, on a whim. The simple functionality of this addition to any self-respecting protester, makes it a must.
We can't complete this list without a shout out to an oldie but goodie. You guessed it, the headband is back, and in full force. From the mild to these headwear trailblazers, it's a timeless look. This year's head band width is slightly larger that that of the past, for the "just in case there's tear gas," moment. My arousal level is at half chub...
Speaking of headgear, this last season saw a multitude of unique looks from across the board. Wigs you say? So in right now, they may never find a way out. What do we want? "Poorly fitting hats!!" When do we want them? Ummm, ALL. THE. TIME!!! How better to prevent looking like you've just come from Isaan or the far south than to make sure that brim is large and in charge. A special nod to this.
This year's star has taken the public by storm. No longer limited to parking lot attendants, life guards and sporting referees, the whistle is that little extra that simply can do no wrong. One of those few accessories that can also be accessorized. Whether it's loosely held in the mouth, on a string around the neck, or just sported visibly in one's hand. The message cannot be confused. You came to party, and you're going to be fabulous at it.
