Buying 4x4 as weekender or daily
Post Body

G’day team,

Currently living in Brisbane with the girlfriend, we both driving Mazda 3s. For the last 12 months we’ve been camping out the back of my Mazda and renting cars and have loved it. My girlfriend doesn’t drive she uses public transport so I can use her car as a daily.

Thinking of picking a 4x4 but not sure about the best way to go about it.

I have 10k in the bank that I am happy to put down on a 4x4 and my car seems to be selling between 18-24k.

My options.

1) Sell car buy 4x4 for 20-30k, thinking 2011-2015 Mitsubishi Challenger. Which can be my daily if we break up.

2) Buy old 4x4 for about 5k and keep my car.

3) Sell car buy older 4x4 for 10k, keep additional money against mortgage and use it to buy a daily driver if we break up.

After a wagon / SUV as we would be looking to sleep in the back.

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

Edit: 24M with next to no technical car experience

Most intense 4wd would be Fraser / Moreton / Stradbroke / bribe island.

Dream 4x4 would be be a land cruiser troopy with a pop top roof camper converted with a new engine for the piece of mind. Which is sadly out of budget and it wouldn’t be my daily driver.
