Is 120 hz a must for watching sports?

I need to buy a replacement TV now so I can’t wait for Black Friday. This is just for a bedroom so looking for something 55” and under $700 if possible. It seems if I am not getting 120 hz then there are good options around $500 (TCL/Samsung). I just don’t want to be disappointed later just so I can save a couple hundred bucks. Appreciate any advice!
