Favorite Outer Space/Fantasy 4x game?

I'm a little overwhelmed by all of my choices in 4x Outer Space Games.

Endless Space, Sins of the Empire, Stellaris, Endless Legend and many more.

I want one with combat, something I actually control and influence (ala Total War). Strong Deplomacy and resource management and different/interesting species. Any suggestions? Which is your favorite Spare game? How the heck are they different?

From normal 4x games, I'd say Civ is my least favorite. I view that game as a technology race Vs. diplomacy and combat. I enjoy the Total War games a lot for the most part.
