2000 2.7 4 cylinder 180k mikes

UnfortunatelyI just bought this 4Runner, and it's been nothing but a headache. It's had a rough idle ever since I purchased it, and I changed out the spark plugs, the coils,, the maf, and the throttle position sensor. None of these things fixed the idle, and just recently I got a bunch of check engine lights on, and it definitely looks like the coolant is leaking, although there are not any leaks under the car. From everything I've read online, the blown head gasket is a very common issue with the 4-cylinder, and always right around 180k miles. Is there a simple test I can do without a tester kit to check for head gasket failure? If it is the head gasket, what are my options besides a full rebuild or finding a new engine?
