So I get thereās a lot of posts about wheels out there and thatās the problem for me, I know nothing about wheels, reputable companies, etc. So information or links to good resources are appreciated. I tried to educate myself on offset and things like that, but thereās no definitive source.
I have a stock ā21 SR5 4wd. Iām going to update the shocks, but am not interested in a lift. I have HT Bridgestones that are new, I donāt plan or want bigger or more aggressive tires. The off-roading I do is forest road/dirt road.
I like the gloss gunmetal TRD wheels. I also like the black TRD wheels. I donāt want to get away from the 17 x 7 dimension because I feel like that would maybe require additional mods.
Stock wheels are 15 offset. I wouldnāt mind taking it out to a 5 or so, but Iām not real sure how this would impact other components.
Other reputable manufacturers other than TRD? Is there like a good, better, best tier? The ādoes it fit my vehicleā filters donāt seem to be much help as they will pretty much say āyesā even if the offset and widened rim require mods.
Anyway, how can I find whatās out there for 17 x 7, know itās a reputable company, and try to avoid additional mods.
Thanks everyone.
Thanks for that. Good to see two reputable manufacturers referenced.
See, I donāt know enough to know if this is a snarky comment or not. Either way, some link to here are reputable wheel brands would be a helpful resource.
That guy is on fire. Thanks. And to be sure, I donāt want a lift, I do want my tires not to rub. Which is why Iād like to stay stock wheel size and close (I guess) to stock offset. I canāt imagine my needs requiring an aggressive tire.
Wow. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. The three manufacturing recs are awesome. The explanations are even better, honestly this should be like a pinned post in the page reference section. I need to reread your section on interplay of offset and backspacing. I get the offset concept, I know the stock is 15, so itās ātuckedā more than offsets that approach zero or move to negative. I imagine if the only wheel variable you changed was the width of the wheel and no other geometry, like a 17 x 7 to a 17 x8, then the offset would inherently change as youāve added a half inch to each side of the wheel.
Honestly, I feel like after reading I at least have enough vocab to have a meaningful discussion at a 4 x 4 parts store. Thanks for taking the time to help a stranger.
For what itās worth, my ultimate vision is like a better stock truck, or like a stock plus. So maybe marginally less positive offset but not super aggressive, a dark gray or black wheel that can take a little abuse, capable shocks and springs, and some sliders as opposed to running boards.
Ya ya ya. New guy here. Are the wheels wider too? In addition to the offset being closer to 0 instead of 15, I see almost no wheels that are 7 in wide.
Thanks for weighing in, 3k/wheel is more than I want to spend whether or not they are good. Appreciate method reference, theyāve got cool stuff and a āno rubbingā search filter. Which is helpful.

Thatās a fair comment. But while Iām not an auto mod enthusiast, I have been an enthusiast for other things, and have found that shop A may be pushing giant brand bikes because thatās their partner, shop B is pushing brand Y of this widget even though its crap. Basically, I donāt know who the coke and Pepsi are for aftermarket wheels and whatās available is confusing.
