So Iāve built a guard and knight armies with themes of only just going renegade against the imperium in the current world. As a result I donāt have much infection/conversion but are painted renegade to allow me to play either side. I always imagine the strings being pulled by the alpha legion but never worked out the details. I finally sat down last night and wrote down my thoughts to try and give me room to expand to include chaos forces down the road that Iāll build and paint. And hopefully some dark mechanicum things. Iād love some feedback on the background on my army and how it stayed loyal for 10,000 years to only go renegade after the fall of Cadia. I figured this might be the best to get some feedback.

The first inhabitants of the system is rumored to have come and founded a colony on the third planet of the system. Naming the system āSpesā and founding many STCs and terraforming the rest of the system. Spes is located in the northwest portion of what would become āSigmentum Obscurusā, and later āImperium Nihilusā
M25
By this time, all 11 worlds in the system were terraformed. Each world has its own government. The system became rich in resources and trading within each other.
Dark Age of Technology
The system was hit hard during this time. After the uprising of the Men of Iron, the government and society collapsed. Each world was pretty much lost, and only a few colonies in each world survived, largely due to the knights remaining in these colonies. The two biggest of which were known as House Tyrannis and House Juxta.
M28-30
House Tyrannis and Juxta would come to blows in the system over various wars. House Tyrannis taking control of the richest and most powerful third planet, while House Juxta headquartering on the 4th. Each house raced to take control of the sector, and with the resources in its control, Tyrannis had the advantage. Taking control of the first and second planets before Juxta was able to control the fifth. While Juxta struggled to take the 6th, Tyrannis gained control of the rest of the system. This left Juxta in the unenviable position of being outnumbered 8-3 worlds under control. However, despite the troubles Juxta found something very valuable in the sixth world. STCs. STCs to create Plasma, Bolter, and Power Armor.

Discovered by the Alpha Legion, Alpharius decided to induct the system to the imperium. Prior to being able to, Alpharius receives a request from the 670th Expeditionary Force for aid in the Nurth Campaign. Unable to do anything, he decides to give an upstart Lieutenant an opportunity. Lt. Gracius of the 9th Company was summoned by Alpharius. He was told heād be given 99 marines from the company and was to bring the sector into compliance before his return. If done well enough, he would be promoted to captain afterwards.
After Alpharius left, Gracius began infiltrating and gathering information to decide how to approach the situation. It soon became obvious that the sector was in the midst of a civil war. House Tyrannis was the obvious power with the numbers on their side, but House Juxta had an advantage with numerous knights and was rumored to have a titan or two hidden defending their main planet. While infiltrating both houses, House Tyrannis discovered that there was a party spying on them and reacted harshly. House Tyrannis, not quite understanding who these Legionaries were, immediately declared war on them. This pushed Gracius to call a council with House Juxta.

Gracius met with house Juxta, identifying himself as Alpharius. House Juxta immediately came in with strong negotiations. They agreed to enter compliance with the Imperium if they respected their sector sovereignty. In return, they offered several Plasma and Bolter and bolter STCs. Gracius found the negotiations acceptable.
Over the next few years Gracius and the Alpha legion assisted House Juxta in taking planet by planet. During which time, Gracius found the knight house and planetary forces to fight aggressively. Surprisingly, the marines were never necessary for the main battles and information became his main currency for House Juxta. Every once in a while, he would send 5 marines out to sabotage Tyrannis equipment and forces before a large Juxta push. Happily, Juxta loved taking the glory of the fight to show propaganda back to their hive worlds. The alliance was not even acknowledged in the news cycles to the average citizen

Finally pushed back to a single planet, Gracius and House Juxta began planning the invasion of the third planet of the Spes system. Knowing that the planet was dug in, Gracius decided to make his presence known. He took his marines and infiltrated the capital hive. Hive Tyrannis was caught off guard by a ālargeā force of marines assaulting their headquarters, never before seeing more than 5 of them at a time. Gracius took some casualties, but ended with assassinating all the leaders of House Tyrannis two days before the House Juxta invasion of the third planet. The ensuing confusion made the battle last only a few months instead of the estimated decades. By the end of the year it is estimated House Juxta lost one titan, 20 knights, countless tanks and infantry but gained control of the entire system. It is estimated Gracius and the Alpha Legion lost 40 marines during the entire campaign.
005.M31 - 013.M31
House Juxta began developing the system in their image. Renaming the system as Juxta system, and rebuilding the damaged worlds with the rich STCs they had access to. The First, second, fifth, and sixth planets were designated as āagri-worldsā. Third and Fourth systems were designated as Hive Worlds, with the rest becoming mining worlds. They established a very democratic system across the worlds and encouraged service in the newly created PDF by giving the franchise only to those who served. Gracius during this time, negotiated closer ties to the system in order to ensure their loyalties to the Imperium but was unable to contact the rest of his legion.
In the years after, the third planet, still named Spes, instituted schools and the fourth planet, Juxta, followed soon after. These schools instituted testing and the top 5% would be fast tracked into a University system which encouraged wealth and trading knowledge. The top .5% would get inducted to the Titanicus and Knight House. Unknowing to the population, Gracius negotiated that the top 100 tested would be given to his troops in order to have opportunities to be given the gene seed to rebuild and repay for the lives his forces lost in the war.
014.M31
News finally came back from Terra, Describing the civil war that was going on. Unable to do anything about it, Gracius stayed put hoping that Alpharius would return and be on the winning side. Using the time to train and bring back his numbers. Once it was learned that Alpharius sided with Horus and lost the heresy, Gracius decided it would be best to keep his existence unknown. Grateful for all his work in the past few years, Juxta gave him refuge and kept the tithes to him to rebuild his company.
The Great Scouring
Juxta was able to convince the Imperium it was loyal during this time, claiming that the Alpha legion only just introduced them to the Imperium pre-heresy and that during the heresy they were busy rebuilding from the civil war they had. Juxta decided to hand over the STCs that were already negotiated with Gracius with the Mechanicum and offered several knight STCs in return for a considerable amount of autonomy and lower tithes.
During this time, some small rebellions happened by street gangs until a new law was introduced, cementing Gracius and his new company in the eyes of the public. Criminals with Life sentences were to be given to the astartes as organ slaves. Seeing the opportunity to grow gene seed and organs, Gracius and his legion established deep ties to the local PDF and law enforcement. Often assisting in keeping the gang element low and capturing insurrectionist alive in order to use them to grow his legion.
Age of Rebirth
Juxta strove during this time, with the planets Spes and Juxta becoming trading hubs in the Segmentum Obscurus. The Hives of each planet use the STCs to create Plasma and Bolter weapons for the Imperium, while hoarding these weapons for local protection. With the wealth earned, the Juxta system flourished.
By M36, Graciusās company not only expanded past full strength but to a size that no longer could be hidden. Numbering now roughly 300 Marines and acolytes. Questions began to occur from the Inquisition who these marines were. Gracius changed his company's colours and claimed to be āThe Forgottenā Chapter and to be founded in the 3rd founding. Unable to confirm, the Inquisition began investigating.
Age of Apostasy
Fearing the retribution of the Inquisition, The Forgotten and House Juxta sided with the Adeptus Mechanicus during the Age of Apostasy. Fighting in multiple battles, and assisting the mechanicus The Forgotten rebuilt a reputation of loyal soldiers of the Imperium. Besides them, house Juxta showed tenacity and aggressive nature that always seemed to hit the enemy at the weakest point. Fighting alongside the Forgotten again cemented their ties together as The Forgotten shared intelligence with house Juxta.
Impressed with the service and seeing the quality of Juxta Systemās knights and regiments, the Adeptus Mechanicus began investing in the system. In return for respecting their autonomy and cementing āThe Forgottenā as a loyal chapter from the Third Founding. In return, Juxta inspired an Adeptus Mechanicus cult on their sixth planet, offering it as a research planet to try and find more STCs as long as the cult was to be homegrown from local constituents.
M37-M40
The Forgotten and Juxta continued to prosper and pay their tithes to the Imperium. With the cementing of The Forgottenās claims, the chapter expanded to 1,000 marines and were able to have access to normal space marine weaponry. The adeptus mechanisms cult took on the traits of the system, as very isolationist and secretive as it was. They built up the sixth world into prosperity as almost a proto-forgeworld and established (or was infiltrated) strong ties with the rest of the system and Forgotten. During this time, the Forgotten and Juxtian forces fought hand in hand in many Imperium campaigns. Using the brute force of their guard regiments and knights to compliment the military intelligence and special forces of The Forgotten.
The 13th Black Crusade
The forgotten and House Juxta answered the call for assistance on Cadia during Abbadonās latest attack. However due to the increased warp storms, The Forgotten never arrived. What did arrive was 12 Knights and 25 regiments of Juxta. Without the military intelligence from The Forgotten, Juxta relied on the Ultramarines for assistance. However, instead of being treated like equals, the Ultramarines treated these regiments and knights more like fodder for the cannon. While fighting valiantly with the tenacity they were known for, casualties were incredibly high. By the end of the campaign, only 2 knights and 1 regiment returned to Juxta.
Upon returning to the system, the barons and veterans spoke poorly of the way the imperium treated them. Often stories of lacking support and reinforcements would be released in the press. Stories of regiments making progress and breaking through the enemy lines, but not being reinforced and forced to fall back were commonplace.
During the ensuing anti-Imperium sentiment, The forgotten reappeared. Gracius appeared before the Princeps and parliament. He threw in his support to the minority factions, claiming that he had gained allies during his jump in the warp. That they would reinforce his position and trade willingly with them.
With Graciusās support, the parliament shifted completely. Party lines shifted from a 30% support of independence, to a 95% support for independence. Thus the Juxta system declared itself Independent and was declared ārenegadeā by the imperium alongside āThe Forgottenā. Knowing that they were about to be attacked upon all sides, Parliament voted to make a new symbol to rally the troops around. This symbol, a fortress symbolized by a circle, attacking back against their enemies on 8 sides.
