I mean, it’s a universe in which a single human being can be used as a portal for literal Hell to ascend upon a world and exterminate hundreds of billions of people in a couple of days.
Where xenophobia and racism can literally save you from genocide/extermination, with the example of the worlds that tolerated and accepted psykers ending up destroyed because of that, while the ones discriminating and lynching them surviving.
The majority of the main enemies of the Imperium are either as fucked up or a thousand times more fucked up than the Imperium.
The majority of the stories in this universe seem to be from the point of view of Imperial characters, and rare are the characters who are just like pitch black evil, which is something that the Imperium shouldn’t be lacking of since its supposedly the "cruelest regime imaginable".
I feel like that’s why there’s just so many people unironically liking and justifying the Imperium, because GW has focused too much on the « noble-bright » side of it instead of its pitch black dystopian side. It’s obviously good to show that not every single human and faction under the Imperium is evil as hell, because we’re talking about a regime spread across millions of worlds and hosting at least quintillions of people, but they have messed up a little bit on that part.
If they really wanted to sake a satire out of it, you would think that they would have focused much more on how stupid and self-defeating the Imperium is instead of actually making them a reasonable regime by making their characters too much noble-bright and their enemies much more evil.
What y’all think ?
Edit : holy moly I’m getting cooked in the comments
