My grandmother purchased this 4Runner, brand new back in 1998. She hasn't been able to drive for some time and I told her that I'd hate to see the 4Runner rot away. I wasn't in the market for a third vehicle but it seemed like this could be a fun pandemic project. She didn't hesitate to hand me the keys. There are probably some people here from /r/4Runner who are familiar with my story.
It didn't need a ton of stuff but needed some essentials. Full brake overhaul with new caliper, new LBJ's, new tie rods, all new fluids (oil, front/rear diff, transfer case, brake fluid, trans fluid, coolant, PS fluid), new radiator, and spark plugs. Not to mention in need of a serious cleaning inside and out.
The wheels were trashed as well so I repainted them as well.
I dumped about $600 or so into it (all repairs done myself) and she only asked for $2000 to take full ownership of the truck. So, I'm now an official 4Runner owner.
Used her quite a bit this past winter. Looking forward to putting down all 5 windows and the sun roof when the weather gets warmer. Just want to put her back in the garage for a bit to check some things over and do an oil change, fuel filter, and adjust the brake drums.
