Here's the thing: I've never been a huge fan of brute-force focused characters. The group I'm playing with is already pretty spellcaster heavy, so I don't want to dip too far into magic. However, I enjoy the idea of a character that enhances their abilities in combat using magic, spells, or other non-physical techniques.
Simply put, I want to make a dexterity-based melee fighter with combat spells, though while still maintaining the general spirit of a rogue--mobile, agile, light armor, decent set of skills-- even if what I'm trying to do might be done better by a non-rogue class.
It almost feels like Arcane Trickster would be perfect if I could trade its enchantment and illusion spells for the Eldritch Knight's abjuration and evocation spells.
All that said, I'm not sure what the path forward is. I've been considering Eldritch Knight, and simply doing what I can to push the class more towards a Rogue style play. I've also been considering if Arcane Trickster with a Wizard dip of some sort would accomplish what I want.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. For what it's worth, for lore reasons (with the custom world our DM has created), I've pretty much already settled on being an Owlin, so race is already locked in.
