So I'm fairly new to dnd, I've played as a player most of the time, and I did dm a pre-made campaign. But I want to come up with a story of my own making. I have this idea, about a bard and a artificer deciding they were gonna take over every kingdom, and large city in the continent. So they invent these gem stones, that when activated everyone who was currently in the city is forced to go out into the streets, and do song and dance numbers nonstop. Or until they pledge loyalty to the big bads. Which causes them to get a mark on their head and become mindless goons that attack anyone who isn't singing and dancing or has a mark on their forehead. The players at the time were not in the city when the stone is activated so they can go in without being forced to dance until they join. All the enemies will have bardic inspiration every turn because the of the people who are singing and dancing. It's sounds harder than it is however, because nobody is stopping them from looting shops that are empty because the owner is dancing in the street. Also the enemies that are converted are people who had jobs that involved sales, so they're nothing special they don't have weapons they just punch and scratch you. But at higher levels, they can run into soldiers who converted, or knights and clerics. Who have spells and skills they will use later. Also there is a giant number floating in the sky that goes down everytime someone converts over. When it reaches 0 the city can no longer be saved until the beat the big bads. So they have to go to other cities to save them. Also everytime they run into a group of dancing people I roll a d10 if it is 5 and under that amount of people convert, if I roll higher than 5 nothing happens. In between cities they can find towns and villages that were to small to be deemed a threat. They run into a group of house hold pets that had been blessed by the gods, to become heros for the weak. So if the party decides to help them, they get magical rewards. Also the pets would bond with them for the duration of the side quest giving them perks, based around their class, like adding an extra 1d4 to healing spells, or attack spells. Making it so if you roll a 19, or 20 it is counted as a critical hit if using a ranged weapon. When you take damage roll 1d6 what ever the number is subtract that from the total damage. Each time they meet these common speaking house hold pets, the perks get better. Also if they succeed in helping the pets complete their side quest 6 or 7 times, they will receive a 1 time use whistle that automatically summons the pets to them so they can aid in either the big bads or in a fight they think they might lose. Also the difficulty goes up in every city with a diverse range of races, that have race specific spells, and abilities. Does this sound like a viable campaign? I figured they can raid shops in the city and get better gear or potions, also they could find the castle or cities treasure room that will have gold and magical weapons and armor.
