My old i3 knock-off’s heated bed may have shit the… bed?
It’s a bog-standard 220x220mm aluminum plate that now tries to draw infinite current, as evidenced by the extraordinary heat from the MOSFET, and the heatsink-shaped burn on my fingertip.
It may be time to go bed shopping. Looking at my options, I could just buy an exact replacement, which is probably the simplest answer. But I just learned about silicone heating elements that you stick to the underside of your existing metal plate. These are supposedly lower current draw, and still compatible with 12- or 24-volt supplies. They also are in the same price range as traditional beds.
Does anyone here have any experience with this new-fangled heating setup, good or bad? Or even some well-informed opinions‽ (I’ll take some wild-assed speculation in a pinch.)
