Disable steppers on anet a6 doesn't work

A friend of mine has an anet a6 and the disable steppers function doesn't work so they can only move the bed and nozzle when they turn the machine of which is quite annoying during calibration. He doesn't have reddit so im asking it on his behalf. Does anyone know how to fix this.
